Scope of Position:
Conduct organic and polymer synthesis with conventional batch process and with Advance Flow Reactor
Conduct polymer materials research in support of all of Corning’s businesses, including Mobile Consumer Electronics, Optical Communications, Life Sciences, and Automotive.
Conduct exploratory research in polymer / glass and composites
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Accountable for all aspects of lab safety and adherence to Corning Values.
Conduct hands-on experiments in an Advanced Flow Reactor (AFR) synthesis lab.
Conduct solution-based organic/composite coating experiments in collaboration with other scientists.
Conduct materials characterizations (FT-IR, NMR, UV-Vis, DSC/TGA, GC-MS, HPLC, GPC) if needed.
Technical support to multiple business units, e.g. AFR, COC, CLS, and AGS
Required Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in Organic or Polymer Chemistry
Personal dedication to continuous improvement in lab safety
Ability to work in a collaborative manner in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Hands-on demonstration of synthetic organic chemistry or synthetic polymer chemistry
Hands-on demonstration of characterization techniques (DSC/TGA, GC-MS, HPLC, GPC, FTIR)
Demonstrated ability to solve difficult technical problems and deliver practical solutions that meet the application requirements along with the fundamental understanding of the chemistry that drives the performance.
Desired Skills:
- Working knowledge of formulation design and process optimization for solution-based organic/composite coatings

The range for this position is $79,566.00 - $109,404.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
